Richland Parish, La – Meta announced today the expansion of its Richland Parish AI Data Center in Northeast Louisiana. Meta will now invest over $50 Billion, making it the largest single investment in the history of the State of Louisiana. Meta’s expansion in Richland Parish represents one of the largest AI infrastructure investments in the world.
With Meta expanding its Richland Parish Data Center to five GW of compute capacity, Northeast Louisiana is further positioned as a major player in the future of Global AI infrastructure. The expansion brings Meta’s total investment in the Richland Parish region to more than $50 billion, creating long-term opportunities for workers, students, local businesses, and communities across the region.

“This commitment from Meta puts Louisiana at the center of America’s future in artificial intelligence, positioning our nation to compete and lead globally,” Governor Jeff Landry said. “In just two years, we’ve secured more than $150 billion in new investment by creating an environment where companies can move quickly and build at scale. Projects like this don’t just grow our state’s economy, they ensure America continues to lead in the technologies that will define the next generation.”
For Grow NELA, this announcement reinforces what the organization has long known: Northeast Louisiana has the sites, workforce, partnerships, infrastructure, and leadership needed to win transformational investment on a global scale.
Local Impact Already Taking Shape
Meta’s investment in Richland Parish is more than a major economic development announcement. It is already creating real, measurable change for families, educators, students, workers, and businesses across Northeast Louisiana.
In Richland Parish schools, increased local tax revenue connected to the project has helped provide teacher bonuses of up to $50,000, a significant increase from last year’s $10,000 bonus. For many educators, this is more than additional compensation. It is a life-changing investment in the people shaping the next generation.
“Last year, our teachers received a $10,000 bonus; this year that check was over $50,000,” said Sheldon Jones, Superintendent of the Richland Parish School District. “It’s life-altering for our teachers and their families, and it’s transforming our schools. Meta’s investment has made Richland Parish a destination for education as well as industry.”
The impact is also being felt beyond the classroom. Every public school and many youth programs in Richland Parish have received support from Meta through direct giving and Data Center Community Action Grants.
Supporting Small Businesses and Local Growth
Across Richland Parish and the surrounding region, small businesses are seeing the effects of new economic activity. Restaurants, coffee shops, transportation companies, contractors, suppliers, and service providers are finding new opportunities as demand continues to grow around the data center project.
Since breaking ground in December 2024, Meta has awarded more than $1.6 billion in contracts to Louisiana businesses, creating opportunities for local suppliers, vendors, and workers throughout the state and region.
TJ and Kaycie Weed, owners of Hebrews Coffee, have also seen their business grow alongside the increased activity in Richland Parish.
“Since Meta arrived, we’ve grown from 40 customers on a good day to over 130,” they said. “We have expanded to three locations, with a fourth opening this fall. Our Holly Ridge shop would not exist without Meta being here.”
This story reflects the kind of local growth Grow NELA works to support every day: new customers, new jobs, new investment, and renewed confidence in the future of Northeast Louisiana.
Building a Workforce Pipeline for the Future
Meta’s investment is also helping create long-term workforce opportunities for residents.
Louisiana Delta Community College is receiving a $5 million donation from Meta to create scholarships for residents pursuing training connected to critical data center jobs. Beginning with the Richland Parish high school class of 2026, graduates will be eligible for full scholarships for data center-related trade certificates and courses.
This investment removes barriers for students, supports families, and helps ensure that the jobs created by this project can be filled by people from Northeast Louisiana. Once operational, the data center is expected to support more than 1,000 roles in a parish of approximately 20,000 people.

“Meta’s historic investment in the LDCC Foundation will have a lasting impact on Richland Parish and the families we serve,” said Dr. Justin Hoggard, Chancellor of Louisiana Delta Community College. “By supporting scholarships for local residents, this gift removes barriers, opens doors, and helps students gain the training and education needed to pursue life-changing careers close to home.”
Meta has also provided training for local small businesses and continues to invest in programs and partnerships that connect businesses and workers to opportunities at the site, from subcontracting pipelines to workforce development efforts with local colleges and universities.
Investing in Infrastructure and Long-Term Competitiveness
With this expansion, Meta will invest more than $1 billion in local infrastructure improvements, including roads, water, and wastewater systems. These improvements will support the data center while also strengthening the region’s ability to attract future business investment.
The data center expansion also includes major energy agreements expected to deliver long-term savings for Entergy Louisiana customers. Meta pays the full cost of the energy, water, and related infrastructure the data center uses, helping ensure consumers are not paying for the project’s infrastructure needs.
For Grow NELA, this announcement represents the kind of transformational investment that can reshape a region for generations. It brings new jobs, new infrastructure, new educational opportunities, and new momentum to Northeast Louisiana.

Rob Cleveland, President and CEO of Grow NELA, said the announcement reflects the type of long-term impact that major economic development projects can create across an entire region.
“This is an investment in the people, communities, and economic future of Northeast Louisiana,” Cleveland said. “This data center project has already delivered substantial economic benefits across our region, creating opportunities for residents, workers, suppliers, and local businesses.”
Cleveland added, “Today’s announcement reinforces what we have shown to be true: Northeast Louisiana can compete and win on a global stage. Meta’s continued commitment sends a strong signal that the State of Louisiana, and specifically the Northeast Region, has the assets, leadership, and talent necessary for long-term success.”
Northeast Louisiana Is Competing on a Global Stage
Meta’s continued investment in Richland Parish places Northeast Louisiana at the center of one of the most important industries of the future.
For Grow NELA, this project is proof of what happens when preparation, partnerships, infrastructure, workforce development, and regional collaboration come together. The impact is already visible in classrooms, small businesses, local contracts, workforce programs, community investments, and long-term infrastructure improvements.
This announcement is not just about one project. It is about the future of Northeast Louisiana and the role this region can play in supporting the next generation of technology, industry, and economic growth.
